Twomey served on the board of trustees of the University of North Florida and of the University of North Florida Funding Corporationrationration, and he was the chairman of the board of trustees of the United Way of Northeast Florida. He holds a bachelor?s degree in history from the University of Virginia and master?s degrees from Duke University and The George Washington University .
