Prior to this appointment, he combined the roles of global head of Wholesale Banking Services and CEO of ING Real Estate Investment Management. He began his ING career with Barings which was acquired by ING in 1995. He holds a degree in Economics from Georgetown University, Washington D.C. since 2011.

Elected by the shareholders, the ING Groep's board of directors comprises two types of representatives: ING Groep inside directors who are chosen from within the company, and outside directors, selected externally and held independent of ING.
