Flanagan received a B.A. and BBA from Southern Methodist University . He is a CFA charterholder and a certified public accountant. He serves on the Board of Governors and as a member of the Executive Committee for the Investment Company Institute, and is a former chairman. He also serves as a member of the executive board at the SMU Cox School of Business and a member of various civic organizations in Atlanta.
