Mr. Robert D. Perlmutter serves as Chief Operating Officer, Senior Executive Vice President of the Company. He became one of our Senior Executive Vice Presidents and was appointed our Chief Operating Officer in February 2016 and is responsible for leasing, operation and development activities. Mr. Perlmutter served as our Executive Vice President of Leasing from April 2012 through February 2016, directing retail leasing. Before joining our Company, Mr. Perlmutter was the managing member of Davis Street Land Company, a privatelyheld real estate company focused on the management, development and ownership of upscale shopping centers from 1998 until March 2012. He was the Chief Executive Officer of Heitman Retail Properties, where he supervised overall operations and growth of its retail holdings from 1990 to 1998. Mr. Perlmutter is a member of the board of trustees of Chatham Lodging Trust, a publicly traded REIT which invests in upscale extendedstay hotels and premiumbranded selectservice hotels. In addition, he is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. since 2016.

Elected by the shareholders, the Macerich's board of directors comprises two types of representatives: Macerich inside directors who are chosen from within the company, and outside directors, selected externally and held independent of Macerich.
