Datuk R. Karunakaran is Senior Independent NonExecutive Director of Malayan Banking Berhad. Additionally, he serves as Chairman of Nomination and Remuneration, Employees Share Scheme, Employees Share Grant Plan Committees of the Board and a member of the Risk Management Committee. He joined the Malaysian Investment Development Authority in August 1972 and served in various positions including Deputy Director, Director, Deputy DirectorGeneral and DirectorGeneral. He also served as the Director of MIDA Singapore, Cologne and London . Having served MIDA for about 36 years, Datuk R. Karunakaran retired as the DirectorGeneral of MIDA in June 2008, a position he held for about 4 years. During Datuk R. Karunakaran service with MIDA, he was responsible for the promotion and coordination of the development of the manufacturing and services sector in Malaysia including promoting domestic and foreign investments in Malaysia. He was a member of the Cabinet Committee on Investment for High Impact Projects. He was also a member of PEMUDAH, a special task force set up by the Prime Minister to facilitate business, improve public service delivery systems in terms of process, procedures, legislation and human resources. His current directorships in companies within the Maybank Group include as Chairman of Etiqa Insurance Berhad, Etiqa Takaful Berhad, Etiqa International Holdings Sdn Bhd and Maybank Ageas Holdings Berhad as well as director of Maybank Plc. Datuk Karunakaran also sits on the boards of several public listed companies such as Integrated Logistics Berhad, IOI Corporation Berhad and Bursa Malaysia Berhad. since 2017.

Malayan Banking Berhad Leadership Team
