Mr. Thomas E. Skains is Chairman of the Board President and Chief Executive Officer of Piedmont Natural Gas Company Inc. Mr. Skains has served as Chairman of the Board of the Company since December 2003 as Chief Executive Officer since February 2003 and as President since February 2002. Previously he served as Chief Operating Officer of Piedmont from February 2002 to February 2003. From 1995 to 2002 he served as Senior Vice PresidentMarketing and Supply Services and directed Piedmonts commercial natural gas activities. Before joining Piedmont Mr. Skains held positions of increasing responsibility with Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporationrationration. He joined Transco in 1981 as an attorney and served as corporate and senior attorney before being named Vice President in 1986 and Senior Vice PresidentTransportation and Customer Services in 1989. He holds a bachelors degree in business administration from Sam Houston State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston Law School. Mr. Skains serves as a director of BBT Corporation and its subsidiary Branch Banking and Trust Company . Mr. Skains has served on the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors since 2013 and was Chairman in 2015. He also currently serves on the boards of several industry and community organizations including the American Gas Association the Southern Gas Association and the American Gas Foundation . since 2003.
