From 1991 to 1999 Mr. Curtis was with Safmarine where he was responsible for the operations of a mixed fleet of containerships handysize and capesize bulkcarriers and also oversaw a number of new building programs. Prior to joining SSML in 2001 Mr. Curtis was based in Cyprus for two years with Columbia Ship Management as technical director. In 1981 he obtained a B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering degree at Natal University in Durban South Africa
