Mr. Douglas Anderson Baillie serves Chief Human Resources Officer of Unilever NV since February 2011. He was educated in Zimbabwe. He graduated from the University of Natal with majors in Business Finance, Marketing and Business Administration and joined Unilever South Africa in 1978. His career over the years has spanned several Sales and Marketing positions, including a secondment to Lever Rexona in Australia in 1987. On his return to South Africa in late 1988, he took up the position of Sales Director, which was followed by a spell as Marketing Director. He moved to London in 1994 to Personal Products Coordination where he became Regional Liaison Member for Africa, Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey before becoming Vice President, Home and Personal Care for the Africa Business Group. He was appointed Managing Director Lever Pond South Africa in 1997 and National Manager, Unilever South Africa, in May 2000. Whilst in this position he served on several external Boards including the Advertising Standards Authority, the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa and was Member of Presidential Big Business working group. In March 2004, he took over as President, Africa Regional Group and in July 2004, took on additional responsibility for North Africa, Middle East & Turkey. In April 2005, he was appointed Group VicePresident Africa, Middle East & Turkey . He moved to India in March 2006 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer, Hindustan Unilever Limited and Group Vice President, South Asia. In this role he served on a number of Industry Bodies including the Confederation of Indian Industry, Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry. In May 2008 he became President of Western Europe, joining the Company?s Executive Committee. He serves as Board Member of Synergos.
