Directv competes with COMCAST, TIME, LIBERTY, DISCOVERY, and CHARTER. DIRECTV engages in acquiring, promoting, selling, and distributing digital entertainment programming primarily through satellite to residential and commercial subscribers. It offers directtohome digital television services, as well as multichannel video programming distribution services. DIRECTV also offer access to various channels of digitalquality video entertainment and audio programming; digital video recorders; highdefinition television channels and 3D channels; videoondemand service under the DIRECTV CINEMA name; and local channels in HD to households customers. In addition, it offer premium professional and collegiate sports programming, such as the NFL SUNDAY TICKET package, which allows subscribers to view NFL games, as well as offers related broadband, HD, VOD, interactive, and mobile services. Further, it offer local and international digitalquality video entertainment and audio programming under the DIRECTV and SKY brands. Additionally, DIRECTV owns and operates three regional sports networks based in Seattle, Washington; Denver, Colorado; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania under the ROOT SPORTS brand name. As of February 28, 2013, it served approximately 20 million customers in the United States and approximately 15 million customers in Latin America. DIRECTV was founded in 1990 and is based in El Segundo, California.
