First competes with BERKSHIRE, AMER, THE TRAVELER, ACE LTD, and ALLSTATE. First American Financial Corporation operates in two segments, Title Insurance and Services, and Specialty Insurance. The Title Insurance and Services segment issues title insurance policies, and related solutions and services on residential and commercial property. This segment also offer closing and/or escrow services; accommodates taxdeferred exchanges of real estate; maintains, manages, and offer access to title plant records and images; and offer banking, trust, and investment advisory services. It offers its solutions through a network of direct operations and agents in 49 states and in the District of Columbia; and in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and internationally. The Specialty Insurance segment offer property and casualty insurance, including coverage to residential homeowners and renters for liability losses and typical hazards, such as fire, theft, vandalism, and other types of property damage in 43 states. It also sells home warranty products, which include the provision of residential service contracts that cover residential systems, such as heating and air conditioning systems, and certain appliances against failures that occur as the result of normal usage during the coverage period in 39 states and the District of Columbia; and offers auto insurance products. This segment markets its property and casualty insurance solutions through direct distribution channels, including crossselling through its existing closingservice activities, as well as through a network of independent brokers. First American Financial Corporation is based in Santa Ana, California.
