Mr. T. Andrew Smith is Chief Executive Officer Director of Brookdale Senior Living Inc. He has over 25 years of experience in seniors housing mergers and acquisitions real estate and capital markets transactions corporate finance and healthcare. Mr. Smith has served as the Chief Executive Officer since February 2013. From October 2006 to February 2013 Mr. Smith served as the Executive Vice President General Counsel and Secretary. In addition to his role in managing the legal affairs Mr. Smith was responsible for the management and oversight of the corporate development functions corporate finance strategic planning and risk management. Prior to joining Brookdale Mr. Smith served as a member of Bass Berry Sims PLC corporate and securities group and as chair of the firm healthcare group. During his tenure at Bass Berry Sims Mr. Smith represented American Retirement Corporation as outside General Counsel. Mr. Smith joined the Board of Directors in June 2014. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of the Nashville Health Care Council and the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing Care Industry and as a member of the executive board of the American Seniors Housing Association . Mr. Smith knowledge of the senior housing industry and his experience as the Chief Executive Officer and previously as the Executive Vice President General Counsel and Secretary led to the conclusion that he should serve as a member of the Board of Directors. since 2014.
