In a career spanning over 37 years, he has held several eminent positions including that of Joint Secretary in the Ministries of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Urban Development. Banerjee was Director General in the Ministry of Defence and retired as Secretary, Ministry of Tourism in October 2008. Banerjee spearheaded the infrastructure upgradation at important tourist destinations in India and played a key role in articulating India?s response to climate change issues relating to the tourism sector. Banerjee received a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi in 1992 and an M. Phil degree in Social Sciences from the University of Panjab the same year
