He previously served as chairman, president and chief executive officer of El Paso Corporation until its merger with Kinder Morgan in 2012. He also served as a director of El Paso Pipeline GP Company, L.L.C., the general partner of El Pasos publicly traded master limited partnership, El Paso Pipeline Partners, L.P. Prior to joining El Paso in 2003, he worked for Halliburton Company in various roles including executive vice president and chief operating officer, and executive vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to Halliburton, he was president, CEO and chairman of Nuevo Energy Company from 1998 to 2000, and served in various positions including chief operating officer and CEO at Torch Energy Advisors from 1993 to 1997 since 2018.
